A controversy has developed about chopper connectivity to Shiv Khori cave shrine in Reasi. This is a well-known shrine housing the Shiv Lingam in a 150 feet deep cave in the mountains and venerated by the devotees for a long time. The Shiv Khori Shrine Board in its recent meeting decided to defer the chopper service to the shrine despite the fact that the landing strip for the chopper had already been decided and even prepared for use. Though no specific reason for deferring the induction of chopper service has been given yet it is learnt that since Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board will be establishing the helicopter base at village Hatt, therefore the chopper service to Shiv Khori will have to be deferred. But there are others who argue that the Hatt village chopper base is still in embryonic stage and may take a long time to become functional, it was not advisable to defer the chopper service to the Shiv Khori cave shrine. Moreover clearance from Aviation Ministry authorities will be needed which again would take long time.
Whatever is the reality about the issue, the fact is that the number of pilgrims to Shiv Khori cave shrine has been increasing year after year and the pilgrims expected that their pilgrimage would be facilitated by the chopper service when it becomes functional. They are dismayed with the decision of the Shiv Khori Shrine Board.
