JAMMU, Jan 20: The members of the Consumer Welfare Association (CWA) today held a meeting, wherein all the participants demanded the Government to immediately reduce fares of passenger-buses, taxis, auto rickshaws, mini buses and load-carriers etc in view of large scale reduction in diesel and petrol prices.
The members pointed out that for any small rise in prices the transport authority, under the pressure of transporters, take no time in increasing the fares but for downward-revision of rates Transport Commissioner has not even called a meeting of the stake-holders to revise the charges despite several representations by CWA during the last 3-months.
CWA appealed the Governor to intervene and issue directions to Transport Commissioner to immediately call a meeting of the transporters and consumer representatives to reduce transport charges to provide some relief to the consumers.
The meeting was attended by Vikram Gour, president, CWA, BM Kohli, general secretary, DP Khajuria, A K Kaul, Chander Gulati, SN Kaul, AK Arora, Rajinder Kakkar, Chander Udhey Sharma and Darshan Kohli.
