Pakistan may try to divert attention ahead of Obama visit: Parrikar

NEW DELHI : Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today  warned that Pakistan may try to divert attention during American  President Barack Obama’s visit, on the occasion of Republic Day.

“We are taking extra precautions…not just because of security reasons. Sometimes something is done to divert attention,” Mr Parrikar said, indicating a possible terror threat ahead of the high profile visit.

Talking to reporters after witnessing the NCC parade organised as part of the Republic Day celebrations, Mr Parrikar said that Indian Armed forces were fully alert to meet any eventuality.

“Our borders are well protected,” he asserted. “If something happens in Jammu and Kashmir…it will not impact security here, but will divert attention,” Mr Parrikar added. (AGENCIES)
