Core Group reviews relief measures in border villages

KATHUA, Jan 21: Core Group constituted by High Court and State Legal Services Authority visited forward areas long the International Border in Hiranagar sub-division of Kathua district to assess relief measures, review the issues faced by affected families and extend legal aid.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and Principal District and Sessions Judge Vinod Chatterjee Koul along with members of core group including District Mobile Magistrate Dinesh Gupta and SDM Hiranagar Sohan Lal also held a meeting with public and affected families at Sherpur and Londi to review the relief measures undertaken by district administration and redress the grievances of affected families.
Border residents expressed satisfaction about the relief measures at the temporary shelter camps established by district administration under Mission Hifazat; prompt rescue and evacuation process and provision of blankets, bedding, ration, firewood, medical aid centres, potable drinking waters and other facilities at these camps during migration of more than 14000 persons in October 2014 and 5000-6000 in January this year after ceasefire violation along International Border.
However, they demanded alternate shelter and land at safer places, bunkers, reservation, relief and crop compensation.
The DC informed that reports on reservation, construction of bunkers, crop compensation, compensation for injury and loss of life in border firing and other important issues like  land compensation, identification of land and developmental issues have been submitted to Government and are under active consideration. He also assured the border residents about early developmental works in border areas.
Vinod Chatterjee Koul, Principal District and Sessions Judge informed the affected families about the legal assistance and services being provided on the directions of Patron in Chief of SLSA Justice Yaqoob Mir. He also inaugurated a legal clinic for assistance of affected families. Three PLVs and 2 advocates have been deputed under supervision of District Mobile Magistrate Dinesh Gupta.
The Core Group also visited forward BSF Posts at Londi and reviewed the measures taken for safety and security of affected families. SDM Hiranagar apprised the DC and PDJ regarding the ongoing assessment of losses and relief measures.
