JAMMU, Jan 23: Strange it may sound but it’s a fact that a Traffic Police official caught on camera taking bribe has been transferred from the area but given prized posting at the National Highway.
After three pictures of Traffic Police personnel taking bribes from vehicle operators went viral on social media, the Traffic officials woke up from the slumber and ordered their attachment. They were Maharaj Krishan, Sub Inspector, Chaman Lal and Rakesh Kumar, constables. A SPO was repatriated to the Police Department.
However, within hours, Traffic Police officials ordered posting of Maharaj Krishan as Sector Officer (SO) National Highway.
A Departmental inquiry has been ordered against the accused, which will be conducted by Additional SP Traffic Jammu, Sunil Raj.
Maharaj Krishan was posted at Dogra Chowk along with two other Traffic officials and SPO, where they were caught on camera taking bribe.
DIG Traffic Jammu Nissar Ahmad said there was no evidence, which suggested that the Traffic officials were taking bribes but added that everything would be probed in the departmental inquiry.
He said Maharaj Krishan has been posted at Jawahar Tunnel in the winters, which was not prized posting.
