JAMMU, Jan 23: Organized by Radio Kashmir Jammu, the Mehfil-e-Qawwali, which marked the commencement of 2015 Republic Day celebrations in the winter capital, emerged as a befitting tribute to the composite cultural legacy of the State as well the Nation.
The musical evening held at the Police Auditorium, here today, not only provided to Jammuites a occasion to witness a live performance of unique art form of Qawwali but also its soulful rendition by two of the well know mater singers; Ustad Sadat Hussain Qawwal and party from Lucknow and Nawaz Sabri Qawwal and party from Delhi.
Today’s programme started with a patriotic song by Nawaz Sabri, which by successfully stirring the pristine emotions of communal harmony, amity and brotherhood, won thundering applause from the audience. Next item, natia kalam which provided an experience of glory and mystery was followed by Amir Khusro’s equally moving “Chhaap Tilak Sab Chheeni Re Moh Se Naina Mila Ke” and a gazal by Shammin Jaipuri. The ecstatic rhythms of tabla, dholak banjo, along with rapturous voice of Nawaz Sabri left a indelible mark.
Ustad Sadat Hussain Qawwal, the 80 years old veteran artiste, exhibiting the class of a master artist, was a contrast to the earlier energetic performance by Qawwals from Delhi.
His calm take off with compositions based in classical music came as a kind of treat for the music aficionados present in large numbers and bursting with wah, wahs.
Earlier, the program ably conducted by Ravi Kant Sharma, started with lighting of the lamp by S. S. Singh, Deputy Director General Engineering, Station Director V K Sambyal and Anjana Badyal.
