JAMMU, Jan 27: A one day national seminar on the topic “The Impact of Urdu language on Kashmiri language and Literature” was organized today in the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu.
The seminar, organized jointly by Kishtwar Campus and National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), Ministry of HRD, New Delhi, was inaugurated by Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor JU.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sharma said that though Urdu came to J&K in later stage, it has influenced Kashmiri language and literature a lot. He said that Urdu has a rich literary treasure and same is the case with Kashmiri language which has produced the towering poets. He hoped that this seminar would be beneficial to both the teachers and scholars belonging to Urdu and Kashmiri language.
The veteran Urdu and Kashmir critic M Y Taing, who was the guest of honour on the occasion, threw light on the works of Urdu as well as Kashmir poets. He informed that Urdu came in our State during the regime of Dogra rulers and in a short period of time influenced the regional languages including Kashmiri.
Prof. Zaman Azurdha, former Dean Faculty of Arts, Kashmir University, presided over the function and said that the Urdu has a definitely influenced the Kashmiri language and literature.
Earlier, Director Kishtwar Campus, Prof Shohab Inayat Malik said that the seminar would be beneficial for teachers and students of Kishtwar Campus where Kashmiri language is taught. He informed that similar types of programmes would be organized at Kishtwar Campus in summer.
On the occasion a Kashmiri books titled ‘Kashmiri writers of the Jammu region’, written by noted historian Aseer Kishtwari was also released by the dignitaries. The book threw light on the works of various writers of Kashmiri language of Jammu province.
