Sir,
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much ambitious scheme of bringing those sections of the society under the ambit of the banking system through ‘Jan Dhan Yojna’ – who were unable to open their bank account in free India for want of certain technical/documentary hiccups is being openly mocked by the banks in Jammu region.
Although the Union Govt has been making all out efforts right since the inception of this scheme to make it a big success and publicising its benefits through print as well as electronic media to the effect that to open an A/C under this scheme is so simple that a customer doesn’t need to submit any document at the time of opening an account. However any formality needs to be fulfilled may be completed lateron within a period of one yr. The scheme also promises to provide a death insurance cover of Rs 1 Lac (Rs 1.5 lac in case of those who have opened their A/c till Jan 24, 2015.)
Unfortunately, most of the banks in this part of the country have shown scant regard to Union Govt’s resolve. Majority of the bank branches in Jammu region haven’t put up any Bankers or other related information regarding opening of Account under this scheme. So much so that the Bank staff openly discourages the people coming to the Bank for opening their Account by telling them to bring/produce documents such as Aadhar Card, Pan Card, BPL Ration Card, which are in no way required for opening an account in the 1st Place under this scheme. The negative response of the banks against this scheme has definitely jeoparadised the positive fruits this scheme could have otherwise yielded.
Sadly the banks are doing all this only to save themselves from the extra work load, which in really is fraught with dangerous consequences and can hamper/severely jolt Govt’s efforts to boost the financial health of this country.
It is high time that the Finance Ministry takes stringent action against the concerned erring officials and the media should also expose such people who are responsible for not only depriving a sizeable section of the society of its rightful due but also contribute towards pushing the country in an economic mess, although sitting on responsible positions.
Yours etc…
