First snowfall in Srinagar, ending long dry spell

SRINAGAR : Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, received first snowfall of the season on the last day of 40-day-long Chilai-e-Kalan, the coldest period of winter.
Light snowfall started this morning and it was snowing, much to the delight of people, as it ended about four-month-long dry spell though there was very light rains. Tree and roof tops besides open fields and roads had turned white.
The upper reaches received moderate to heavy snowfall. (AGENCIES)
