SRINAGAR, Jan 29: Taking a strong exception to erratic power supply situation and shortage of ration including rice, sugar and flour, CPI (M) State secretary and MLA Elect Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has asked the administration to address the miseries of people of the State especially those braving a biting cold in Kashmir Valley without any procedural delay.
In a statement issued here, Tarigami said the shortage of ration in Kashmir particularly in Kulgam and its adjoining districts speaks volumes about the insensitivity and callousness of the authorities concerned. He said that there is shortage of ration in Government depots across the Valley especially in South Kashmir.
“Despite adopting a resolution asking the Government to provide 35 kilograms ration to each family at the rate of Rs 2 per kilogram moved by me last year, thousands of families are deprived of their right to food. The ration is not available in Government run depots and people in Valley complain about the scarcity of other essential commodities as well,” Tarigami observed.
He called for providing ration according to the latest Census figures as the population had increased over the past decade.
Tarigami asked the administration to take notice of the fact that a huge number of families are still deprived of ration cards and there is a dire need to reach out to such families and ensure that they get their due ration share per month. “CAPD can distribute ration among such families on their identification by the local Mohalla committees,” Tarigami said.
Referring to the erratic power supply, Tarigami said the unscheduled power cuts are giving difficult times to the people of Kashmir especially during this winter.
