NYK adopts 20 villages under ‘Swabhiman’

KATHUA, Feb 1: Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kathua, has been assigned 20 villages to be adopted under Swabhiman – a flagship programme launched by the District Administration for improving gender ratio, child sex ratio, working for saving girl child and providing quality education to girl students in the district.
Under directions from Deputy Commissioner and mission head Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator NYK Dr Som Dutt Zard has trained 20 volunteers for adopting one village each to work for the purpose.
A Village Swabhiman Cell will be established in all the adopted villages which will impart awareness and education. The NYK Volunteers have been assigned a target of 6 months for achieving 100 percent literacy and awareness about the legal provisions and various social aspects of issues related to CSR, Gender Ratio, Female Child, PC&PNDT Act, promotion of education for female child and other related matters
The Swabhiman Mission has also roped in various departments and organizations for a host of activities in the district during current year with an aim to improve gender ratio, child sex ratio and quality education for female child.
