UDHAMPUR, Feb 2: An awareness workshop on the theme “Hamara Jal, Hamara Jeevan” was held here today in connection with the observance of India Water Week 2015. The workshop was jointly organized by the Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU), Water & Sanitation Support Organization (WSSO), Department of PHE I&FC, J&K, Central Water Commission, District Water Sanitation Mission and Central Ground Water Board under the aegis of Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Management Government of India.
The workshop was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that the aim and objective of organizing the event was to create awareness among the general public regarding conservation, preservation and judicious use of water. She said that such type of workshops play an important role in educating people about the importance of water and preservation of water resources to maintain the water table. She said that water is the basic need of human as well as other creatures on the planet and need of the hour was to conserve this essential commodity for better tomorrow. Every individual must play his/her role in this noble cause and preserve the water, she added.
The DDC asked Executive Director, CCDU to provide water harvesting structure to households in rural areas so that people of the area get knowledge about proper utilization. She stressed the need for holding such workshops on regular basis in every nook and corner of the district to create greater awareness amongst the masses about the water usages.
Dr Narinder Bhatial, Executive Director CCDU stressed that water conservation is very important for our future generation and also highlighted the importance of water hygiene and its advantages in present life. She dwelt on the measures initiated by the CCDU for preservation of water bodies.
Later, Rishi Kumar, X-En, CWC and PO IWMP, Sunil Sharma also highlighted the importance of water management in the workshop through power point presentations.
On the occasion, DDC also released a booklet on “India Water Week”.
