Srinagar, July 31: A Police constable was injured in Sopore this evening as militants carried out twin grenade attacks in the North Kashmir’s militancy infested township.
Police said that some unknown militants hurled a hand grenade at Iqbal Market in Sopore this evening resulting in injuries to a police constable Anil Kumar of IRP 7th battalion.
The injured was shifted to the hospital for treatment where from he has been referred to Srinagar hospital.
Minutes after the attack, militants hurled a grenade at Police Station Sopore. However, it exploded outside police station without causing any damage.
Police immediately cordoned off the area and conducted searches. However, no one was arrested.
Police have registered a case and have taken up investigations.
Last year militants carried out a massive attack on Police Station Sopore in which two police men were killed and 7 others were injured.
Sopore is considered to be the worst affected by militancy because of its proximity to Line of Control and support for militants.
The Lashkar-e-Toiba has larger presence in the town and they have recruited large number of local youth over the years.
