JAMMU, Feb 4: Following scuffle between a lady attendant and a lady PG Doctor in Emergency Department of the Hospital late last night, the junior doctors of all departments of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu went on strike and suspended work in all sections of the hospital, including wards and Emergency Department.
According to the reports, on a minor issue a scuffle broke out late last night between a PG Doctor identified as Dr Neha and a lady attendant who has been identified as Kusum Biloria wife of Ravinder Biloria, who contested recent State Assembly elections from Billawar constituency on NPP ticket.
However, according to sources with the intervention of the police, the matter was resolved within few hours after the accused lady attendant sought apology from the doctor and on the doctors demand a FIR against the attendant was registered in police post, GMCH. But ignoring the apology, all the junior doctors including PG doctors and registrars from this morning went on strike and suspended work, which presently is being looked after by consultants.
When contacted, one of the representatives of Junior Doctors’ Association, Dr Akhil said no body has sought apology from the doctor, adding the strike will continue till tomorrow morning when the next course of action will be decided.
He said, “Though FIR in the case has been lodged, yet this is not enough. We need proper security so that such an episode does not occur in future”. He said our demands included immediate apology from the culprit of manhandling the female doctor in front of media and all resident doctors, issuance of non-bailable warrant against the accused and deployment of at least 20 police personnel in Emergency Department round the clock to check such an episode in future.
