SAMBA, Feb 4: A 21-year-old girl today died after she allegedly jumped into river Basantar in Samba district, police here said. Shallu Heer, resident of Sai Palace in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, this afternoon jumped from a bridge into river Basantar, Samba, under mysterious circumstances police said.
Police said the passers by raised an alarm, following which police team led by SHO Samba Ravinder Parihar rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation.
The girl was rescued and shifted to District Hospital Samba but she did not respond to the treatment, police added.
The body was later handed over to parents for last rites after postmortem by the police.
The Police has registered a case under Section 174 and started inquest proceedings. Meanwhile police has detained Vimal Veer S/O Chaju Ram of Nonath Ghagwal for questioning.
“She had come to Samba to meet someone. We have initiated legal proceedings and started investigations into the case,” police said.
