LEH, Feb 4: His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa today visited the ‘Live to Rescue’ – Stray Animal Care and Management Center Nang at Nang village to take stock of the arrangements and to discuss further requirements of the centre that is now house to about 300 stray dogs in Leh. His Eminence Thuksay Rinpochey, Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Rigzin Spalbar, Executive Councillor for Animal & Sheep Husbandry Gyurmet Dorjey, Treasurer Hemis Gonpa, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Leh Dr. Abdul Qayum, Additional SP Gyalpo, monks and nuns among others were also present.
This centre is being run by Young Drukpa Association as “Live to Rescue” in collaboration with Ladakh Animal Welfare Society (LAWS), Animal Husbandry Department Leh, World Animals Job Foundation Dutch and Municipal Committee Leh.
H.H. Gyalwang Drukpa talking about the importance of doing good work for the benefit of others expressed gratitude to Nang villagers for donating the vast piece of land for the purpose of erecting this Centre. Sharing his passion for doing something related to ‘Environmental Issues’ his holiness said that after the tree plantation at Hemis, this center was set up for the benefit of stray dogs the work of which was assigned to His Eminenece Thuksay Rinpoche, so that the alarming increase in number of stray dogs and menace related to them can be treated in a humane way.
Looking at the collaborative efforts put together, his holiness appreciated every organization, society, NGO and individuals involved and stressed on respecting the existence of other living beings as every living being has the equal right to live on this planet as man. H.H. further expressed the hope that the collaborative work will yield good and effective results and that this effort will be an example for others to follow.
Later, H.H. Gyalwang Drukpa awarded ‘Appreciation of Certificates’ to Grand Dragon Hotel for their daily contribution of food for the dogs since the very beginning of this centre and members of Animal & Sheep Husbandry Leh, Ladakh Animal Welfare Society, Municipal Committee Leh, World Animals Job Foundation Dutch and volunteers of YDA and workers of the centre for their tremendous contribution.
In the end, President YDA Padma Tashi presented the vote of thanks and also informed that a garbage management is being planned in which a Garbage Recycle Unit is being prepared. He further talked about the initial idea taken from a social media posted by Bureau Chief Greater Jammu newspaper Morup Stanzin.
