JAMMU, Feb 6: Assailing unholy and opportunistic alliance between PDP and BJP in the upcoming elections to Rajya Sabha, former Minister and National Conference general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that the PDP’s hypocrisy stands exposed before the people of the State.
“A party that had been boasting of freeing the State from Armed Forces Special Powers Act and return of the mortal remains of Afzal Guru to Kashmir has compromised on all the promises for lust of power”, Mr Sagar said in a statement issued here this afternoon.
He said the reports about the purported Common Minimum Programme arrived between the PDP and BJP does not contain these issues over which the PDP incited passions, generated hype and polarized the situation in the Kashmir valley. “Now the people of the Valley have come to know how PDP took them for granted and betrayed their trust”, he said, adding that there is nothing new in the somersault of the PDP, the leadership of which is habitual of changing sides for vested interest.
Mr Sagar said the NC stands vindicated over PDP’s U-turn, adding that for sharing the loaves of power they can go to any extent. He said history stands testimony how its leadership in different jargons bruised the identity of Jammu and Kashmir and trampled its single entity. He raised questions about the antecedents of the PDP leadership and said that over the decades they remained engaged overtly and covertly in diluting the essence of Article 370.
Mr Sagar said how the PDP leadership will face the people of Kashmir and justify their tie-up with BJP, a party they tore apart in every public meeting and election rally. He, however, said that given its track record, the PDP would work on different alibis to defend the indefensible and to justify their murkier deal.
