Will neither take nor extend support to AAP: Maken

NEW DELHI :  Congress general secretary Ajay Maken, who is contesting from Sadar Bazar Assembly seat, today announced that
his party will neither take nor extend any support to the Arvind  Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party after the Delhi polls.
“We will neither take nor extend any support to the AAP for government formation,” Mr Maken told reporters after casting his vote at Rajouri Garden.
Maintaining that Delhi has several problems due to administrative complexity, Mr Maken said the people should vote for a set of leaders who can resolve these problems.    “Please vote for those leaders who resolve problems of the city, not those who sit on dharna or create a rift within the party,” the Congress leader said in an indirect attack on both the AAP and the BJP.
Mr Maken said he was satisfied with the Congress’ election campaign as the party, which was voted out of power in 2013 Assembly polls, raised issues concerning the people of the national capital.
“If we get an opportunity, we will work towards solving the problems of the people,” he said.
“There is no last minute nervousness, I am a veteran, have won many such elections,” he commented.    Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit ruled out that her party, which was in power in Delhi for 15 long years, is no where in the picture this time.
“The Congress is very much there,” she said after casting her vote at Nirman Bhavan.
Ms Dikshit, who is not contesting the Assembly polls, said the Congress’ election campaign had an energy and every worker of the party worked hard.
She expressed that the campaigning was based more on “personality clash” and less on debate and talks on programmes and manifesto of political parties.
The last Assembly polls for the 70-member Delhi Assembly had  produced a fractured mandate with no party getting a clear majority.
The BJP had become the single largest party with 32 seats while
the AAP bagged 28 seats and the Congress managed only eight seats.
The Congress had extended outside support to the AAP but Mr Kejriwal had resigned in February last year after being in power for just 49 days.
