Srinagar, Feb 7: Doctors have condemned the thrashing of a doctor in the Valley’s lone maternity LD Hospital allegedly by some attendants.
Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) spokesperson Dr Riyaz Daga in a statement said that executive body of DAK today condemned in strongest words thrashing of Dr Amir Iqbal yesterday in Lal Ded hospital.
The spokesman claimed the doctor was on emergency duty attending a sick patient when a male claiming to be attendant of a patient during evening hours barged into labor room and physically assaulted him.
He said the President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan while addressing the meeting said that these episodes of thrashing of doctors have become a routine and it is difficult for doctors to work in such hostile conditions.
“Government has failed to ensure safety and security of doctors in hospitals who are under constant fear which has adversely affected patient care. It is the responsibility of Government to provide facilities to the doctors who bear the brunt,” he said.
Quoting the president, the spokesman said that Government is insensitive to repeated assaults on doctors otherwise it would have not been indifferent to our long pending demand of an ordinance on violence against doctors which has prevented such episodes in other States.
“DAK demands a exemplary punishment of culprit so that these incidents are not repeated and ensure safety and security of doctors for efficient patient care,” he said.
