Udhampur, Feb 7:  Long traffic jams were witnessed on National Highway passing through Udhampur as well as Dhar road leaving commuters and students in chaos throughout the day today.
As thousands of vehicles, which were the part of up convoy traffic from Jammu towards Srinagar, started reaching Udhampur early in the morning, kilometers long traffic jams could be seen on this highway as well as on the Dhar road.
It took each vehicle more than two hours just to cross a three kilometer stretch passing through the city. Heavy jams were witnessed at Omara Morh, Shiv Nagar, Military Hospital Chowk, Housing Colony Chowk as well as Jakhani Chowk. As the up convoy included Army, civil and other heavy vehicles, double crossing by small cars resulted in heavy jamming which continued till afternoon. On the Dhar road also a long traffic jam was witnessed between Industrial area till Jaganoo morh where vehicles remained stranded for two to three hours.
” My wife is pregnant and has developed labour pain and we were stuck up in the jam at Dhar road for three hours before we have just now finally reached district hospital for further treatment”, said Rakesh resident of Jaganoo .
“As the number of vehicles leaving for Srinagar has increased manifolds, local city traffic gets multiplied at various crossing points here resulting into these jams. Our men were on duty throughout the day trying to clear the traffic on ground”, said DTI Udhampur.
