JAMMU, Feb 10: State unit of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), has alleged that a large number of daily rated and Community Participation (CP) workers of the PHE Department have not been paid their wages by the authorities for the last about 30 months.
Addressing provincial body meeting of the Water Works (PHE) Employees Association, State president of the
INTUC Shiv Kumar Sharma strongly criticized the State authorities for not paying the wages of the poor workers. Mr Sharma who is also provincial president of the Association, projected several pending issues of the PHE workers and condemned the attitude of the higher authorities for not paying any heed to the genuine issues of the poor PHE workers.
The PHE workers from Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Doda, Ramban, Poonch and other areas attended the meeting. INTUC leader alleged that many workers are being provided just Rs 500, 600, 700, 800 or 980 per month which is highly discriminatory, amounting to sheer exploitation. There is no standard scale of wages. The Govt failed to implement its own order No. 115-F of 2013, dated 22-4-13 of providing Rs 150 per day wages to these workers. It is highly unfortunate that for the last over thirty months many workers have not been paid but they are being made to work. He demanded that Chief Engineer PHE Jammu has sent the list of 16,070 number of daily rated workers to the Government for regularization and they should be cleared without any delay. Sharma demanded issuance of seniority list of cadre, conduct of DCP, time bound promotions, repair of Govt buildings, tube wells, pump houses, chowkidar quarters and creation of new posts in the department for its smooth functioning.
