Driver killed, conductor injured as truck plunges into gorge

RAMBAN, Feb 12: A driver was killed and a conductor got seriously injured, when the truck they were traveling in, skidded off the road and plunged into gorge near Peeda area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK02BF-9827, was on its way to Jammu from Srinagar, when the driver lost control over the steering and the vehicle landed into 100-feet deep gorge near Peeda area, resulting into on the spot death of truck driver, who has been identified as Mohan Singh, a resident of Phalata, district Udhampur.
After getting information, police team from Chanderkote police station led by SHO Rajinder Sharma and locals rushed to the spot and rescued the conductor.
The seriously injured conductor was rushed to District Hospital (DH) Ramban, from where he was later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced treatment.
The injured conductor has been identified as Sunil Sharma, son of Chuni Lal, a resident of Rehambal, district Udhampur.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Chanderkote police station and investigation started.
