Shortage of skilled workers

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Industrialists permitted to reduce local employment level to 55% DE July 30.
The shortage of skill-workers is considered as one of the causes of poor performance of some of the industrial units in the State. The shortage of skilled workers in the State is primarily due to our faulty education system wherein much emphasis is not been laid vocational education. There are no facilities or provisions for imparting vocational education right from senior secondary level upto graduation. At times, Governments in power expressed their willingness to introduce such courses in the education system. But no effort in right earnest has been made to introduce these courses. There are many polytechnics in the State but these institutes have failed to meet the market demand. This is because these polytechnics have less intake capacity and less infrastructure to provide quality education. Besides, these institutes provide training only in  some selected trades .
New trades have to be introduced in case we want to keep pace with changing market scenario in view.
Once skilled workers are available, the industrial scene in the State could change for better. Till then we have to depend on workers from outside the State.
