Mushrooming of Coaching centres

Sir,
This has reference to the write up ‘Beware of the pseudo- tutors’ by Prof.Javed Mughal (DE,Feb 6,2015).The writer has rightly expressed his concern over the mushrooming of coaching centres in towns, cities, metros and everywhere. There was a time when only weak students were encouraged by their parents for private coaching to improve themselves. But the high aspirations of parents and students, together with the rising standard of living, more and more students are enrolling themselves in these coaching centres which claim to guide the aspirants for various competitive and academic examinations to spectacular and guaranteed success. Coaching centres are also being run for courses such as english improvement, handwriting improvement, fluency in spoken english and the like. They charge hefty fee from those who enroll themselves for these courses.  But surprisingly, many of of them have poor infrastructural facilities such as seating arrangements, air conditioned rooms, security arrangement, library etc. There are reports of overcrowding and as many as 80-100 students are huddled together in a single group.Barring a few, most of them have incompetent, inexperienced and untrained faculty and the candidates are just cheated by their catchy advertisements. The parents need to find out the details of faculty, infrastructure, experience and success rate of a particular coaching centre before enrolling their children/ wards for coaching.
As a result of spoonfeeding and dependence on readymade notes, the students of today have given up the habit of intensive and extensive reading of standard text books with the result that they lack basic concepts of different subjects and most of them fail to register a seat in reputed medical/ engineering college. They must remember that hard work and sustained study, together with strong will power and drive and clear vision, perseverance and aim, is the only key to success. The directions of the High Court to close unregistered coaching/ tuition centres in the state will go a long way in checking mushrooming of such centres. The Government too ought to take action against those coaching/tuition centres which donot fulfil the laid down guidelines to safeguard the interests of the enrolled students.
Yours etc….
