3 people killed due to swine flu, 71 tested positive in Kashmir

SRINAGAR : Three people, including a 3-month-old baby, have so far lost their life to swine flu in Kashmir valley, where 71 people have been tested positive for H1N1 virus.

However, the Director S K Institute of Medical Science today urged people that they should not panic, but advised them to take necessary precautions in order to curb this communicable disease.

“Two patients infected by H1N1 virus have died in Kashmir while 71 more have tested positive and are undergoing treatment,” he said while talking to reporters here today.

He said one death was confirmed to have occurred due to the virus, but another patient, an elderly woman, even though was tested positive for H1N1 virus had critical cardiac ailments. “We are not sure if she died because of the virus or cardiac ailments,” he said.

“There is no need to panic as SKIMS has all the necessary arrangements in place to meet such cases, he said, adding other hospitals are also equipped to handle such patients to avoid unnecessary burden to SKIMS.

“They can only be referred to SKIMS for advanced treatment, if needed,” he added.

“We have drugs and vaccines and other equipments to cater to the patients, but it the number increases rapidly we will need more.

He further said if Swine flu cases increases, the Health Department will advice the administration to extend winter vacations and close the schools as it is highly contagious disease.  (AGENCIES)
