Doda, Nowshera MLAs call on Governor

JAMMU, Feb 19: Shakti Raj Parihar, MLA Doda and Ravinder Kumar Raina, MLA, Nowshera called on Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan here today.
Mr Parihar apprised the Governor about the need for opening a Campus of the Jammu University at Doda, adding sometimes back Jammu University had liberally extended its units (campus) at various places with limited curriculum suited to such places but District Headquarter of erstwhile combined Doda district was ignored for un-explained reasons.
He also demanded establishment of two Kendriya Vidyalyas in the district, adding on the pursuation of Member of Parliament Dr Jitendra Singh, the Ministry of Human Resource Development had primarily agreed to establish two KVs in Doda but the move was stalled by the State Government thereby depriving students of the district of quality education.
Mr Parihar demanded construction of a defence road from Bhagwah to Daldraman, which will cater to the needs of general public of the area. He further demanded alternate highway from Batote to Kishtwar on the ground that the existing highway has become susceptible to land slides and has been declared as unsafe.
“Government of India has already approved construction of an alternate road via Sudh Mahadev and the authorities carrying out preliminary works should be instructed to take up the work without any loss of time”, he stressed.
He apprised the Governor about the sluggish and faulty implementation of MGNREGA in the district and shortage of doctors. He regretted that both these issues were brought to the notice of the concerned authorities but no concrete step has been taken so far.
Mr Raina apprised the Governor about the pending demands for the provision of sufficient funds for the construction and renovation of the colleges and Sub-District Hospital buildings at Nowshera and Sunderbani, early start of Trauma Hospital at Sunderbani, stationing of one PMGSY unit at Nowshera for effective monitoring of the roads constructed under PMGSY and enhancement in funds under BADP.
He also put forth issues relating to staff strengthening in the newly created administrative units and other Government departments, restoration of historical sites, constitution of a Refugee Board for addressing problems of PoK refugees residing in Nowshera etc.
The Governor assured both the recently elected legislators that their demands would be looked into and urged them to continue sustained pursuit of development issues in their respective constituencies.
