Non-availability of H1N1 logistics cause of panic: DAK

Srinagar, Feb 21: Doctors today said that public anxiety and anger is because of non availability of vaccines, drugs and other protective equipments after the pandemic H1N1 virus in the Valley.
Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) accused the health officials of inaction and held them responsible for the panic among people and spread of the viral disease.
“The health officials by not acting in advance are responsible for spread of H1N1 virus which has created chaos and confusion among public and are shamelessly denying their failure,” said DAK Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan.
He said that the admitted H1N1 patients in hospitals are kept in intensive care units with other patients, which is hazardous.
“Peripheral hospitals do not have the facility of sample collection or isolation for H1N1 patients who are referred to tertiary care hospitals. There are no separate flu clinics in tertiary care hospitals for H1N1 patients who mingle with other patients and risk their lives,” he added.
He blamed authorities at SKIMS for failing to provide protective gear to the doctors.
“Some of the doctors who tested positive for H1N1 at SKIMS were forced to deal with swine flu patients without protection. They were not given requisite vaccine or chemoprophylaxis and were treating H1N1 patients without wearing PPE’s,” he said.
