5 locals among 15 short-listed for post of VC Central varsity Jammu

JAMMU, Feb 21: The Search Committee looking for new Vice-Chancellor of the Central University Jammu, is learnt to have short-listed candidates for the interaction to make final selection of the panel of three.
According to the official sources, five locals among 15 candidates have been short listed and invited for interaction with the Search Committee on March 2 and 3 at New Delhi.
The locals, who have been short-listed, included Prof Devanand (the incumbent Incharge  Vice-Chancellor of the Central University Jammu), Prof Irshad Ahmad Hamal (Vice-Chancellor of  Baba Gulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri), Prof G M Bhat, (Professor of Economics in Kashmir University), Prof Rajiv Gupta (former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Central University Jammu and ex Professor in Jammu University) and  Prof Ashok Aima (former Professor of  Management in Jammu University), sources informed.
More than  three hundred Professors from across the country  had applied for the post of  the Vice-Chancellor, applications for which were invited last year after constitution of a Search Committee for  the purpose.
The other short-listed candidates include; Prof G K Karmath, Prof Narpinder Singh, , Prof Madhusudan H Fulekar, Prof S A Kori, Prof Ashok K Singh, Prof Arun Diwaker Nath Bajpai, Prof Suresh Chand, Prof Baishnab C Tripathi, Prof R K Bedi and Prof B S Ghuman.
These short-listed candidates have been invited for interaction with the Search Committee and also to make a Power Point Presentation about their vision  for the Central University Jammu. The interaction will be held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on March 2 and 3, sources disclosed. Based on their performance in the interaction and vision document, the Search Committee will further shortlist the candidates and submit a panel of three  to the Union Human Resource Development Ministry for a final selection, sources explained and added that President of India, who as Visitor of the Central University, will make formal appointment of the VC.
The Search Committee  is likely to submit the panel of three finally short-listed candidates to the HRD Ministry on March 3 and appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor is expected by mid of March, sources hint.
The Search Committee, comprises of  five members; three nominated by the CUJ Executive Council and other two nominees of the Visitor. They are;  Prof Y R Malhotra,  Prof Jai Roop Singh, Naved Masood, Prof Khincha and Prof S Bari.
It may be recalled that Prof Devanand had taken over as Incharge Vice-Chancellor of Central University Jammu on August 8 last following retirement of  Dr S S Bloeria, who was first VC of the university.
