Ongoing Urdu serial ‘Shikast’ impresses viewers

JAMMU, Feb 22: Shikast, the serial based on Krishan Chander’s novel by the same name and presently being aired on DD Urdu, has earned accolades for successful TV adaptation and realistic portrayal that how powerful segments in the society have always maintained a strangle hold over the weak, in garb of social traditions and norms.
Produced by local actor, director and writer, Ravi Braroo, under banner of Shilpa Productions, the serial Shikast is befitting tribute by Jammuites to the great Urdu writer who spent an important part of his life in Poonch. and its land, scenery and people often formed the backdrop of his creative works including Shikast, the acclaimed novel.
Based in Poonch’s village  Mandar, the story of the serial revolves around three love tracks of Chandra, Noora and Vanti in which innocent emotions emerge as the metaphor of struggle and finally meet the defeat-the Shikast. The intense emotional dramas woven around individual stories meet their tragic ends in the hands of main villains who apply devious means to ensure their primacy over the local population.
Written and dialogues by Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, directed by Ravi Baraoo, who has also penned the lyrics,  the serial, through fine performances of cast, comprising of talented local actors in competently directed and artistically cinematographed close knit scenes, succeeds in portraying to viewers the pain of poverty and suffering of wretched of the earth. The actors include Rahul Sharma, Neha Bhardwaj, Vinay Raina, Rani Bhan, Shammi Malhotra, Janak Khajuria, Madan Rangila, Pankaj Sharma, Laxmi Tagotra, Deepak Virdi, Subash Jamwal, Lalita Tapasvi, Tapeshwar Dutta, Lakshmi Tagotra, Sapna Soni, Riddhima, Archana, Ravi Braroo and brother and sister team of Master Sahrad and Vaibhavi.
The melodic music is by Kuldeep Sapru, cinematography by Ravikant Reddy, operative cameraman of 2nd unit, Raju, make up by Sandeep Damania/Pintoo and costume by Pankaj Bhat. Sandeep Dhar and Sahiba Bhat were assistant directors and production by Ajit Singh and editing by Neeraj Badyal.
The 13 episode serial of half hour duration and being telecast on DD Urdu at 8 pm and repeated on 11 pm, is all set to a great finale with its last episode on February 26, 2015.
