JAMMU, Feb 22: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Prof Saifuddin Soz issued whip to the party MLAs to vote for the two National Conference candidates in the MLC elections.
The meeting was attended by the MLAs- Nawang Rigzin Jora, Ghulam Mohammed Saroori, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Gulzar Ahmed Wani, Dildan Namgyal and Asgar Karbalai. While MLA Banihal Vikar Rasool has gone on Umrah; MLAs Mohd Akram, Usman Majid and Amin Bhat could not make it to reach and attend the meeting but the message was communicated to them regarding issuance of whip by the PCC chief.
During the meeting, Prof Soz requested the party MLAs to vote for the two candidates fielded by the National Conference for election to the J&K Legislative Council. The legislators assured Prof Soz that they would vote in the election for the NC candidates. It is pertinent to mention here that NC legislators had supported Congress candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad during Rajya Sabha elections held recently.
The legislators also raised many other issues with regard to deficiency of medicines needed to be provided to patients that have been tested positive for swine flu. The members also complained that the masks needed by the public were also not available. They alleged that funds were not being made available even to meet repairs of essential elements of the infrastructure, in different parts of the State. Prof Soz assured to take up the matter with the Governor.
