Mercury settles above normal; rain, snow likely in JK, HP

NEW DELHI:
It was a pleasant day in north India today with mercury settling above normal levels in most places of the region even as the weather department predicted fresh spells of rain and snow in hilly areas of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh tomorrow onwards.
In Delhi, the maximum temperature recorded during the day was 28.6 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal, while the minimum stood at 16.6degrees, five notches above normal. Light breeze and sunshine made the day comfortable for Delhiites.
Residents in Punjab and Haryana too witnessed a pleasant morning with minimum temperatures staying above normal levels. The Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded the minimum at 14.5 degrees Celsius, six notches above normal.
In Haryana, Ambala’s low settled at 15 degrees Celsius, six notches above normal, while minimum temperatures in Hisar, Karnal, Narnaul and Bhiwani settled at 12, 13, 12.2 and 14.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a low of 12.4 degrees, five points above normal, while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded minimums at 13.5 and 13 degrees.
Temperatures across Kashmir and Ladakh went up, providing relief to residents from cold conditions. Mercury in Srinagar jumped over two degrees from the minimum of 3.9 deg Celsius yesterday to settle at 6.2 degrees.
The minimum temperature in Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir, settled at minus 0.8 degree Celsius, over a degree up from minus 1.6 degrees Celsius yesterday. Mercury in Pahalgam hill resort in south settled at a low of 2.2 degrees.
Leh, the frontier town in Ladakh region, recorded a low of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius, up from the previous night’s minus 5.8 degrees. Kargil town recorded the lowest in the state at minus 3.8 degrees Celsius.
In Himachal Pradesh, weather remained dry for the second day. There was no significant change in day temperatures which rose by three to five degrees yesterday, and Una was the hottest in the region with a high of 27.5 degrees Celsius.
Maximum in Dharamsala settled at 21.8 degrees, followed by Shimla 20.5 and Manali 18.8 degrees. Keylong was the coldest in the region with a minimum of minus 6.2 degrees Celsius while Manali recorded a minimum of 2.0, followed by Dharamsala 10.2, Shimla 14.2 and Nahan 15.1 degrees Celsius.
