14 traders booked by LMD

KATHUA, Feb 23: On the directions of the District Development Commissioner Kathua, the Legal Metrology Department conducted inspection of various business establishments in the district and booked 14 traders for violation of various provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997 and Package Commodities Rules.
As many as 20 challans of the booked traders were compounded by the concerned and penalty of Rs 15900 was imposed on the erring traders.
The team of the LMD was headed by Assistant Controller, Ajay Verma and comprised of Inspector Legal Metrology Kathua and Dayala Chack.
Vicky Sharma and Devi Lakhanpurpuria conducted intensive checking of various business establishments especially Gas Agencies, dispensing units, Karayana shops, Bakery shops, Provisional Store, Hardware Store, Atta Chacki, Sweet shops, Procurement Dealer, Steel units, Goldsmith and Bar & Restaurants at Logate Morh, Dhrallian , Airwan, Nagri parole, Hatli Morh, Parliwand, Mela, Sanji Morh, Marheen, chadwal,Dayala Chack, Chan Arrorian , Phinter and adjoining areas.
The officers directed all the traders to use only verified Weights and Measures for business transactions and display MRP, PKD, Net Contents and complete address and Consumer Care Number on the commodities to be sold in package form.
The department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from using unfair trade practices and appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities.
