JAMMU, Feb 24: Demise of National Conference (NC) senior leader and Party patron, Sheikh Nazir Ahmad who breathed his last today has been widely condoled.
Governor, N N Vohra has expressed his grief over the sad demise of Mr Nazir, a senior NC leader and uncle of Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister of the State.
In a message of condolence to Omar Abdullah, the Governor has conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul resting in eternal peace.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) patron and former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the Party president and MP, Mehbooba Mufti have condoled the demise of veteran NC leader Sheikh Nazir Ahmed.
In their condolence message they said “in Sheikh Nazir Sahib’s demise J&K has lost a seasoned politician. The void his demise has created in the political scene of the State is hard to fill”.
They said the deceased will be always remembered for his political acumen, organizational skills and services he rendered for the needy, during the decades long political career.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, they prayed for the everlasting peace of the deceased soul.
All senior PDP leaders including MPs Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Tariq Hamid Karra, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Nazir Ahmed Laway and MLAs Abdul Rehman Veeri, Abdul Haq Khan, Syed Basharat Bukhari, Syed Altaf Bukhari, Nayeem Akhtar chief spokesperson and others have expressed their profound grief and sorrow over the demise of NC leader.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has also expressed his profound shock and grief over the demise of NC leader Sheikh Nazir Ahmed.
In his condolence message Mr Azad termed Sheikh Nazir as a veteran political figure of J&K and a pioneering leader who stood for high values in political and public life. He termed demise of Sheikh Nazir an irreparable loss to the State as well as the Abdullah family. Mr Azad offered his condolences to former Union Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah and former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. Glowing tributes were paid to Sheikh Nazir Ahmed at a condolence meeting held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan and two minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed leader.

Describing Sheikh Nazir as a towering leader who guided the cadre with his inspirational leadership during most testing times over the decades, the leaders while paying tributes to him said his passing away has created a void in the political spectrum of the State in general and National Conference in particular which is hard to fill.
Former Minister and N C district President, Khalid Najeeb Suharwardhy also paid rich homage to Patron of the Party Sheikh Nazir Ahmed and describing him as a guiding force for the party cadre.
People’s Democratic Front (PDF) president and MLA elect Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yasin while condoling the demise of the NC leader described him as pioneering leader who stood for high values in politics and public life.
State Secretary CPI (M) and MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami has expressed his grief and sorrow over the demise of Sheikh Nazir a veteran leader of the State.
President, JKPCC, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has expressed his grief and shock over the demise of Sheikh Nazir whom he termed as most experienced leader of NC and one of the senior ideologues of the Party.
Awami National Conference (ANC) has condoled the sad demise of Sheikh Nazir Ahmad. Party president Begum Khalida Shah while expressing her grief over the sad demise of Sheikh Nazir Ahmad said he was a great legendary who spent his whole life for the betterment of the people.
Comrade Abdul Rehman Tukroo, State secretary CPI has also condoled the demise of Sheikh Nazir and termed it a great loss to the people of the State.
Senior Vice president, PCC Abdul Gani Vakil, Ch. Beeru Gujjar, PCC vice president and MLC, G N Monga and Rasik Bhat, general secretary, JKNC, Student Union have expressed their profound grief and shock over the demise of Sheikh Nazir.
