DFCO seals depot of Cipla Ltd for indulging in unfair trade practices

JAMMU, Feb 24: Drugs and Food Control Organization during the drive found that the depot of M/s Cipla Limited situated at Channi Rama, Narwal Bypass was indulged in unfair trade practices by concealing the details of inventory of the anti-flu drugs presumably with some ulterior motive.
The consignment of the said drug lying in the said premises comprising of approximately 2400 tablets was dispatched to the Directorate of health Services Jammu to meet any exigency on this account.
Further, in order to ascertain the authenticity of the statements made by the responsible technical staff of the C&F the operations of the said Firm were closed sealing the premises and seeking explanation to the notice served on spot by the Licensing Authority Wholsesale Lotika Khajuria. This step was taken in anticipation to prevent hoarding and profiteering of this drug.
It has also surfaced during the drive that the consumers are being cheated by some unscrupulous vendors in the grab of spurt of swine flu by selling masks at high prices. Accordingly vendors dealing with such items were put to check in Raghunath Pura area and warned of strict action if such charges were proved by the consumers.
Controller Drugs has made an appeal to the public not to fall prey to such elements and ask for N95 masks and make purchase of such items against credit payments. Further any complaint regarding charging of exuberant rates being charged on account of masks/drugs should be brought to the notice of the local drug authorities positioned at district headquarters.
