LJP, ASKPC warn against grabbing of shrines’ land

JAMMU, Feb 24: Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) National spokesperson, Sanjay Saraf and All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) have expressed serious concern over continuing encroachment of religious properties and other land belonging to Pandit community in Kashmir valley under one pretext or the other.
In their separate statements the two organizations have urged the Government to ensure the restoration of all KP shrines in Valley by removing illegal encroachments.
Mr Saraf expressed his serious concern over the move of a local politician in grabbing the land of revered Sheetal Nath Shrine in Habbakadal for construction of office of Behbood Committee there.
He also took up the issue with Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Rohit Kansal on phone as the issue was concerning the minority community whose sentiments are attached to the Shrine.
Mr Saraf warned any construction on the land of the Shrine by any political leader and also made an appeal to Governor N N Vohra to ensure that land belonging to Hindu religious places is not encroached in any part of Valley. He said the DCs concerned should act as custodians of the land under the Distress Sale Act and ensure its safety.
He said earlier houses of KPs were also dismantled in some parts of Valley on the name of development on the instance of some political leaders.
ASKPC chief R K Raina while criticizing the Government for its failure in protecting the land of the Hindu shrines in Valley by the mafia groups said in Bumhama Kupwara agriculture land of Pandits has been grabbed by the mafia groups.
Bharat Bushan Gosani general secretary, ASKPC warned that KP community will come on streets if Government failed to restore the land of the community which has been grabbed by unscrupulous elements in Valley.
