JAMMU Feb 24: Patron National Conference and veteran leader of Jammu and Kashmir, Sheikh Nazir Ahmed passed away in wee hours of this morning at Super Specialty Hospital here. He was 78.
Sheikh Nazir had been hospitalised yesterday after his condition deteriorated. Stream of National Conference leaders, friends, relatives and the workers visited the hospital to enquire about his health.
Former Chief Minister and the party working president Omar Abdullah was among the first to visit the veteran leader and his uncle at the hospital.
The body of the departed leader was brought to the party headquarters at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan for the cadre to pay their last respects before being taken to Srinagar.
A large number of leaders including Omar Abdullah and general secretary Ali Mohammed Sagar paid floral tributes and homage to Sheikh Nazir. His mortal remains were  laid to rest at the ancestral grave yard in Srinagar during the day.
Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah has stated that the Rasm-e-Chaharum of Sheikh Nazir Ahmed will be held on Friday. Congregational Fateh-Khwaani will be held at the ancestral graveyard at Malik Sahib, Soura at 2:30 pm after Friday prayers.
Condolence for all days, including on the Chaharum will be held at the residence of Dr. Farooq Abdullah at Gupkar, Srinagar.
