CUJ team interacts with locals of Raya Suchaini

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Feb 25:The Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu, Prof Devanand and senior officers of the University interacted with some prominent citizens, especially those of Raya Suchaini in Samba district where the University campus is coming up. The University team sought suggestions of locals on community development programmes of the University.  The prominent citizens included General Govardhan Singh Jamwal (Retd), Sarpanch Khajoor Singh and others.  The  senior officers of the University were, Registrar Jit Singh,  Dr  P  S  Pathania,  Prof  Deepak Raj Gupta,  Prof  N R  Sharma,  Prof  H S  Sehgal,  Prof  Sham Singh, H K  Prasher  and R P  Gupta. The VC informed that the University is about to set up a CUJ Outreach Centre, which will have a Library and Computer Centre for the use of the students of the area. The Centre will remain open for 12 hours in a day, said VC. He also informed that the Department of Social Work will undertake programmes to help uplifting living standards of the local community. The VC also narrated various other academic and administrative programmes of the University.  R P Gupta explained that the buildings on the campus are Green Buildings which are being constructed in conformity with GRIHA-5 rating adding that no building is being built at the top of any ridge and afforestation programme is underway. General Jamwal suggested to lay stress on watershed development for multiple use,  protection of Biodiversity and  development of herbal while Sarpanch, Khajoor Singh  suggested Avenue plantation, societal development activities, starting of new courses such as Fashion Designing, Arts and Music, Sculpture, etc. Some more useful suggestions came from other locals. Later a visit was made to orchard of Madan Badyal in village Suchaini
