JAMMU, Feb 27: A two-day National symposium on Interdisciplinary Sciences NISS-II 2015 was today inaugurated at GGM Science College, here.
Sarita Chauhan, Commissioner/ Secretary to Department of Higher Education, J&K was the chief guest on the occasion. Prof Vikram Kumar, Emeritus Professor and former Director, NPL and SSCL- New Delhi, Department of Physics, IIT Delhi, presided over the function.
Prof BL Raina, Vice Chancellor, Sunrise University, Alwar (Rajasthan), Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Director Centre for Excellence (CEN) Nanotechnology, Electrical Engineering Department, IIT Mumbai and Prof (Dr) TA Kawoos, Director Colleges, Higher Education Department, J&K Govt, were the guests of honour.
The inaugural session commenced with the lighting of ceremonial lamp. In his welcome address, principal of the college, Prof (Dr) Satinder Singh laid emphasis on the importance of holding such mega events as these provide an opportunity for scientists, academicians, technopreneurs and students to interact on the current developments and future trends in the multidisciplinary area of science and technology.
Prof RS Jamwal, convener of the symposium gave detailed resume of the aims and objectives of the symposium.
On the occasion, Abstract Book of the Symposium, Special Edition of College Newsletter ICH-DIEN and Nature Saviors were released by the chief guest and the other dignitaries.
Dr V Ramgopal Rao in his keynote address spoke extensively on the subjects of Nano-sciences and Nanotechnology while Prof Vikram Kumar from IIT, Delhi spoke on the importance of interdependence of various sciences in the present scientific scenario.
The chief guest in her address lauded the efforts of the organizers in bringing the scientific community together on a single platform. She further added that scientific magnanimity radiating from experienced scientists throughout the country will inspire the youth to take up science as a life time mission.
The Commissioner/ Secretary in her address maintained that the Higher Education Department is continuously striving to steer the college environment so that critical thinking and creativity is instilled in the students. She hoped that this symposium will go a long way in promoting scientific temperament among students in the State.
The vote of thanks was presented by organizing secretary, Prof Rakesh Kumar Gupta.
