Excelsior Correspondent
NEW DELHI, Feb 28: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that justice has been done to Jammu and Kashmir in the Union Budget.
Soon after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley finished reading his budget speech in Lok Sabha, Dr Jitendra Singh walked up to his seat and thanked him for having sanctioned an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for Jammu and an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) for Jammu & Kashmir in the Budget.
In his capacity as Minister for Northeast, Dr Jitendra Singh also conveyed his gratitude to the Finance Minister for having accepted the request for grant of Institute of Film Production (IFP) in Arunachal Pradesh .
Dr Singh said, “even as the budget has been overall hailed across the country by all sections of society including the middle class, elder citizens as well as youth and pensioners, Mr Jaitley has been particularly sensitive towards the peripheral States of Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast during the two successive budgets presented by him within a short span of nine months after the taking over of the BJP led Government at the Centre”.
In this context, he also referred to the sanction of IIT for Jammu in the last Budget presented by Arun Jaitley during the monsoon session of the Parliament.
Dr Singh said, “setting up of AIIMS at Jammu had been mooted by the then NDA Government headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee and the unfinished task had been completed by the Narendra Modi led Government with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley realizing the significance of having an institute like this in Jammu not only for improving the standards of medical education but also for reducing the exodus of seriously ill patients from this area to other parts of country”.
Similarly, he said, an IIM for the State of Jammu & Kashmir had been a long pending requirement and only someone like Arun Jaitley, who knows the State of Jammu & Kashmir very well, could have addressed it at the first opportunity available to him.
As the Minister for Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh said, he is planning to host an event for film industry in Mumbai in order to showcase the potential of Northeast to film units looking for scenic locations for shooting. From this point of view, he said, the facility of IFP in Northeast itself will act as an incentive for the Bollywood and Tollywood filmmakers to travel to Northeast without much hassles and carry out the film shooting work in a cost-effective and easy manner.
Dr Jitendra Singh also hailed the announcement by Union Finance Minister to bring-up a heritage spot at Ladakh in Jammu & Kashmir.
With the taking over of a new Government in Jammu & Kashmir tomorrow, Dr Jitendra Singh hoped that the liberal assistance provided by the Centre will facilitate rapid growth of the State in true spirit of cooperative federalism envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
