Fresh snowfall in Gulmarg, other heights in Kashmir

SRINAGAR :  World-famous ski resort of Gulmarg, famed health resort of Pahalgam and other heights received fresh snowfall while plains, including summer capital, Srinagar, had rain in the Kashmir valley resulting in severe chill during the day.
Met department spokesperson said a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) had already hit the region and will remain active during the next 24 hrs which could result in fresh rain and snowfall in the state.
Though the minimum temperature remained above normal, people woke up to a chilly morning due to intermittent rain coupled with icy cold winds.
About half a feet of fresh snowfall was recorded on white powder covered ski slopes at Gulmarg, a major attraction for tourists, skiers and other adventure lovers, a hotel owner  told UNI over phone.
He said the upper reaches, including Affarwat, Kongdori and Khilanmarg had received about one feet of fresh snowfall last evening. It was snowing at these places.    The upper heights in north Kashmir,including areas near the Line of Control (LoC) also received fresh snowfall. Dozens of villages remained cut off from their respective district and tehsil headquarters due to snowfall. (AGENCIES)
