Srinagar, Mar 6: Prof. Shakil A Romshoo, Head Department of Earth Sciences, University of Kashmir, has been awarded the prestigious National Geoscience Award 2013 in recognition of his outstanding achievement in the field of Remote Sensing and Geoinformation System.
The award carries a cash award of Rs 2 lakhs, certificate, citation and trophy.
The award is being conferred on Prof. Romshoo by the President of India, Pranab Mukharjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi on 6 April, 2015.
An alumni of the University of Tokyo, Japan and Asian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bangkok, Prof. Romshoo has worked in various national and international organizations before joining Kashmir University in 2004.
Travelled widely for academic interactions, he is the author of more than 100 national and international publications. Prof. Romshoo has won several national and international awards for his research contributions. Presently, he is leading a research team in the field of snow and glacier studies in Himalayas with a focus on climate change.
He is establishing the National Ice Core Laboratory for Himalayan glacier studies at Kashmir University.
