2 more swine flu deaths in J&K

JAMMU, Mar 6: A lady died today of suspected swine flu in an Army Hospital in Rajouri while seven more cases of swine flu were reported in Jammu during last 48 hours taking the total number of affected patients with the dreaded disease in Jammu region to 53.
According to an Army spokesperson, a 55-year old woman having swine flu symptoms died at an Army Hospital, Rajouri, in the intervening night of March 5 and 6. “The woman identified as Chanchal Devi wife of Havildar (Retd) Om Prakash was admitted with severe swine flu symptoms in the hospital yesterday morning, where she died today at about 1.30 am”, he said, adding that the report of her swab sample, which was sent to New Delhi for testing, is still awaited.
Meanwhile, Director Health Jammu, BS Pathania, told that seven fresh cases of swine flu were reported yesterday while three more tested positive today. “With this the total number of patients suffering from the disease has reached to 53. While 203 reports were received till date by the department, 150 of these were found to be negative and reports of 40 samples including 15 sent today are still awaited”, he said.
He said that so far three people had died due to swine flu in Jammu region.
At Flu OPD of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, 171 patients were screened today and samples of 15 were taken for testing. According to Medical Superintendent, GMCH, Dr Ravinder Ratan Pal, as of now eight H1N1 patients are admitted in Isolation Ward established in the hospital and one of them is serious while 18 people were discharged today after successful treatment.

One more patient suffering from H1N1 died at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) today taking the death toll due to swine flu in Kashmir to 8.
Medical Superintendent of SKIMS hospital, Dr Farooq Jan, told Excelsior that the dead patient was having multiple co-morbidities and also tested positive for H1N1.
“Thirteen patients were admitted in Isolation ward of the SKIMS during the last 24 hours and one patient is still admitted in ICU. Six new samples were taken from the suspected patients and 80 patients were examined at SKIMS today”, the MS said.
Dr Jan said that 14 patients were tested positive in last 24 hours at SKIMS taking total number of H1N1 positive cases to 291.
