JAMMU, Mar 7: Dr. Haseeb A. Drabu, Minister for Finance, Labour & Employment and Culture, called on N.N. Vohra, Governor, here at the Raj Bhavan today. This was Dr. Drabu’s first meeting with the Governor after taking charge.
The Governor and the Finance Minister discussed several important issues flowing from the Finance Commission’s Award which provides significant financial support to the State in the next 5 years, issues of Cooperative federalism, effective fiscal management for advancing the pace of socio-economic development of the State etc.
The Governor also discussed with the Finance Minister the need for timely decisions to regularize casual employees engaged in the past 15 years and more and, side by side, ensure against any fresh inductions being allowed unless clear vacancies existed along with budgetary support.
The Governor wished Dr. Drabu high success in all his future work.
Dr. Khurshid Andrabi, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, called on Governor and briefed him about the to-date status of staff positioning and infrastructure development and also discussed several important academic and administrative issues which are pending decisions. He also informed the Governor about the forthcoming “Young Scientists Meet” in which Nobel Laureate Prof. Tim Hunt will be participating and the Special Convocation to be held on April 1, to honour Dr. C.N.R. Rao, recipient of Bharat Ratna.
The Governor discussed with Dr. Andrabi issues relating to the Leh, Kargil and Baramulla off-site Campuses and the need for ensuring early functioning of the two Campuses in the Ladakh region.
