JAMMU, Mar 7: Reiterating commitment of the Government to develop rural and far flung areas, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh today said the new dispensation is committed to socio- economic development of all the three regions and sub-regions of the State and focused attention would be given to develop these areas on modern lines.
“Improved infrastructure in rural areas has direct bearing on overall development hence we will ensure that necessary development projects are launched,” he added.
He was addressing large gathering of people who had come to greet him on his maiden visit to the constituency after taking over as the Deputy Chief Minister of the State.
Scores of people attended the Mega road show and rallies which were organised by the people in support of Dr. Nirmal Singh.
While responding to demand for better power infrastructure, Dr. Nirmal Singh said a high level meeting has been taken by the Chief Minister for looking into the matter and in coming days steps would be taken to address the demand of power in the State. Inspite of being a power deficit State, the Government would formulate a strategy to ensure that people are supplied with power with minimum curtailment, he added.
He said the Government is also committed to strengthen the local self Government institutions and necessary steps would be taken to ensure that the concerned municipalities and local bodies contribute their role in development and infrastructure building.
En-route to Billawar, people had gathered in thousands at Dyalachak, Pranjali, Challan, Ramkot, Gujru Nagrota, Lakhri, Thara Kalal, Ghura Kalal, Phinter, Deoli, Bhaddu and Sukrala.
While interacting with the people, the Deputy Chief Minister said that faith shown by people in democracy would be respected and the government would fulfill its commitment in providing an accountable and responsive administration in the State.
He said the Government would work for peace and prosperity in the State through initiatives that address socio-economic aspirations of the people.
During the road show, people presented their respective demands which inter alia included potable water, upgradation of power infrastructure, strengthening road network, connecting new areas with roads and improving existing ones and installation of transformers.
Dr. Singh gave a patient hearing to demands of the people and assured that their genuine demands would be looked into on priority.
Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister visited Handloom finishing centre, Samba and inspected the facilities at the centre.
