JAMMU, Mar 7: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution and Tribal Affairs, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali today inspected various CAPD godowns of Jammu city in order to check the stock position and quality of the food grains available.
The Minister was accompanied by Director CAPD, Joint Controller Legal Metrology, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology, Joint Director and other senior officers of CAPD.
Director CAPD informed that at the moment 3415 quintals of rice and 556 quintals of sugar are available in the Central Store near Jammu University while as 3850 quintals of rice and 530 quintals of sugar are available in the stores of CAPD at Chatha for catering to the requirements of the people of the Jammu region.
To ensure greater transparency and record upkeep, the Minister directed for expediting the computerization and digitization process underway in the CAPD and asked the concerned officers to complete the process before April this year.
Meanwhile, during the inspection, the Minister took serious note of the laxity shown by the Storekeeper and placed him under suspension with immediate effect. He further asked the employees to work with utmost zeal and dedication to infuse efficiency, accountability besides effective delivery of services.
The Minister recommended installation of digital weighing machines in all the godowns besides setting up standards and time limits for early dispatch of commodities to the people.
The Minister underscored the need for early dispatch of food grains to all sale outlets for onward distribution to the consumers well in time, adding that supply of food grains to the people without any hindrances is the prime responsibility of the department.
The Legal Metrology Department is working for establishing a testing laboratory which would help the department for ensuring quality food grains and accuracy in its quantity. The Minister, meanwhile, directed the Metrology Department for conducting regular inspections of ration depots, Atta Chakki and procurement dealers in order to keep a check.
The Minister also asked the authorities to devise a consumer feedback mechanism to improve the in time service delivery and its effectiveness.
Later, the Minister also visited Haj House and took stock of problems being faced by the stranded passengers.
