Srinagar, Mar 7: While expressing concern over the Maharashtra Government’s decision to scrap five percent reservation for Muslims in education, All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) underscored the importance of implementing the recommendations of National Commission for Minorities in the country.
APSCC Chairman, Jagmohan Singh Raina, said that minorities living across the country should be given the privileges as accorded to them by the National Commission for Minorities.
“The decision of the Maharashtra Government is ridiculous and it would send a wrong signal to the minorities in the country,” Raina said in a statement.
He said that when interests of minorities need to be safeguarded the Maharashtra Government has taken a decision disturbing the overall make up of the Indian society.
“The order needs to be scrapped at the earliest otherwise the minorities would not feel safe and they would be disheartened,” said Raina.
The APSCC Chairman said that National Minority Act that has classified Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and Buddhists as minorities in the country needs to be implemented in letter and spirit by Governments across the country.
