JAMMU, Mar 8: On the eve of Women’s Day, the CPI (M) State Committee urged upon the Government to provide equal opportunities for women in all the fields of public life.
Addressing the women activists here today, State Secretary CPI(M), MY Tarigami demanded that in J&K women should be provided 33% reservation in the legislature as has been done in the  case of Panchayats and Municipal institutions.
He said the increased presence of women in the political sphere will help them in addressing the issues directly or indirectly influencing their lives. He expressed his deep concern over the rise in rape cases, domestic violence and various types of discrimination meted out to women.
Tarigami also exhorted the women organizations and other social forums to sharpen their struggle against all kinds of exploitation and fight for their genuine rights vigorously. He urged the women workers to protest against the policies of neo-liberal globalization, communalism and religious fundamentalism, as also against social violence.
“The women should also strive against uneven development, lack of opportunities regarding employment, health care and education”, he added.
