JAMMU,  Mar 9: Air Marshal Kulwant Singh Gill, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Air Command undertook an inspection visit of Air Force Station Jammu on March 8 and 9.
During the tour, the Air Marshal inspected various units and interacted with the troops and field commanders.
The Air Marshal Gill was commissioned into the Flying branch of the IAF in 1977. In a career, spanning over 36 years, he has held several distinguished appointments. He was an Instructor at Air Force Academy and a member of two Antarctica expeditions.
He commanded the highest flying air base (Leh) in the Northern sector and was the first Contingent Commander of the UN Mission to Congo. He was instrumental in initiating and activating many Forward Air Bases (FAB) and Advanced Landing Grounds (ALG).
For his extraordinary courageous tasks during various missions and appointments, he was conferred with Yudh Seva Medal, Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) and Ati Vishist Seva Medal.
During the visit, the Air Officer shared his experience of handling complex and challenging missions with the troops thereby motivating them to bring out their best in them. The visit was greatly successful in boosting the morale of troops deployed in highly active forward areas in Jammu sector.
