SRINAGAR, Aug 3: In a petition seeking stay on the select list of District Judges, High Court today directed the State to file objections within a week’s time.
After hearing Senior Counsel G A Lone appearing for the petitioner Jawaid Abdullah, who appeared in the written test but could not qualify, Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir refused to grant stay but issued directions to the State to file objections within a week’s time.
The High Court also directed the Registry to list the case within 15 days.
Earlier, the counsel for the petitioner argued that many holes can be picked up in the selection process of District Judges and before the final list is made public, the process needs to be revisited.
“The written test for the District Judges was conducted without determining the eligibility so far as it relates to requirement of all the candidates being proficient in reading and writing Urdu”, he argued, adding “since Urdu is an official language of State, the Urdu illiterates can unleash a writ on judiciary as such selection process needs a relook before its finalization”.
