JAMMU, Mar 10: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhnandan Kumar convened a meeting to review the functioning of Irrigation and Flood Control Department here today.
The Minister directed the concerned officers to complete desilting works on priority on Ranbir and other canals of Jammu before release of water on Baisakhi and ensure personal monitoring during the process. The Minister also directed the officers to submit a desilting plan for distribution system under BADP (Border Area Development Plan) immediately so that the matter is taken up with the concerned authorities.
Regarding the restoration of damaged tubewells along the border areas, the Minister directed the officers to immediately carry out the repair work so that farmers and cultivators in these areas do not face any inconvenience due to scarcity of water.
Mr Kumar asked the officers to adopt a pragmatic approach while formulating the irrigation projects to ensure that the projects envisaged will cater to the area specific needs.
Reiterating the commitment of the Government to provide better irrigation facilities to the people of the State, the Minister exhorted upon the officers to redouble their efforts and work for the betterment of the people and any laxity in this regard would not be tolerated.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, Jammu, H.C. Jerath, Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers of Jammu division.
